Who we are

Founded on 11th November 2022, in the Spring Revolution, we are at the forefront of driving the movement for women's political empowerment in Myanmar.

Mission

We encourage and support women's participation and representation in decision making process in political and socioeconomic affairs by providing advocacy, resources, education, and mentorship. We strive to cultivate a supportive network that amplifies women's voices, advances policies for gender parity, and fosters an environment where women leaders can flourish and enact positive change in society.

Vision

To create a future where gender equality, diversity, and inclusive leadership thrive in all levels of governance and community.

Our Philosophy

Politics for Women Myanmar (PFWM) embraces intersectional feminism as its cornerstone, recognizing that building federal democracy in Myanmar requires women's equal participation across all ethnic groups and regions. We believe a genuine federal system must address the unique challenges faced by diverse women while dismantling both military dictatorship and patriarchal power structures simultaneously.

PFWM rejects the notion that political liberation can be achieved without addressing patriarchal power structures and ethnic discrimination simultaneously. The organization views women not as passive victims but as vital agents of political change whose leadership is essential to creating a truly democratic Myanmar.

PFWM aims to create a unified resistance to dictatorship while ensuring that the future democratic landscape reflects the needs and aspirations of all women. Their intersectional approach recognizes that sustainable peace and genuine democracy cannot be achieved without addressing the complex interplay of gender, ethnicity, and power in Myanmar's political context.

Why do we need to empower women?

It ensures a more inclusive and representative democracy, as women make up roughly half of the population and their perspectives are essential for addressing the full range of societal issues. Besides, women's participation can lead to more sustainable and peaceful outcomes in conflict resolution and nation-building efforts, as research has shown that women's involvement in peace processes increases the likelihood of lasting agreements.
